The Game of Diamonds
First time playing? Try this...
- Click all four white boxes in the diamond to reveal the numbers.
- Do you notice a connection or pattern between the numbers?
- Once you think you know the connection, click NEW to get another diamond to see test your theory...
For Solo Players
- Press the space bar to reveal the top and bottom numbers
- See if you can figure out the missing two numbers
- The top of the diamond is the product of the side numbers
- The bottom of the diamond is the sum of the sides
For Teachers:
- The first time you play, show the diamond and reveal all four boxes to see if students can find the connections between the numbers.
- When they know the rules, click and reveal any 3 numbers to see if they can find the missing 4th.
- When they're ready, click and reveal the 2 side numbers so they can calculate the top and bottom numbers.
- Finally, just show the top and bottom numbers (click space to automatically reveal them). Now the game has begun!
Once students know how to play...
- Students work in small groups or pairs.
- Each group uses a mini whiteboard and draws a blank diamond on it.
- Load a diamond on the screen and reveal the top and bottom numbers by clicking them (or press the space bar).
- Wait until every group is holding up their board showing a completed diamond.
- You can reward every group that is correct, or just the first group that got it (as long as everyone has had time to put an answer up).
- Load a new diamond (click Play Again or New or press the enter key) while the students pass the whiteboard to the next student in their group.
- Play again!
